Ishita Kishore, a Delhi University graduate who topped the civil services examination 2022. Kishore, a Economics (Hons.) graduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce, qualified the examination with political science and international relations as her optional subject. For 26-year-old Kishore, it was her third attempt. Ishita Kishore could not clear the prelims in her previous attempts.
Ishita Kishore, UPSC topper said that “one has to be disciplined and sincere” in preparations to crack the civil services exam.
“If you are taking the big decision to take civil services exams, no matter how much intelligent you are, you have to put in the hours, you have to put in the work,” Ishita Kishore said.
The journey was very long. I tried to get around 40-45 hours of preparation in a week,” Ishita Kishore said.For candidates who are preparing for civil services exams, her advice is: “Keep working hard towards your goal. UPSC civil services exam requires a lot of consistency and discipline. Put in the right amount of hours that is needed according to you. Don’t compare with others. And constantly re-evaluate your strategy” to succeed.”

Ishita Kishore expressed gratitude towards her family for continuously encouraging her. “Even though I did not clear prelims twice, the kind of belief they had in me, the way they made everything easy for me…I will be obliged to them,” Ishita Kishore told while interacting with Pragnya IAS
When asked why Ishita Kishore opted to take the civil services exam, Ishita Kishore said: “I felt they my passion lies towards public service. I want to contribute towards governance and public service.”
Ishita Kishore’s father was an Air Force officer and her mother used to teach at a private school. Her elder brother is a lawyer. “I have opted for the Indian Administrative Service. I have given my preference for Uttar Pradesh cadre,” Ishita said.
Kishore, who has also been a national-level football player, said Ishita Kishore would work for women’s empowerment and the upliftment of neglected people.
“I am a national-level football player. I participated in the Subroto Cup football tournament in 2012,” Ishita Kishore said.
As many as 933 candidates – 613 men and 320 women – have qualified for the civil services examination 2022. Out of the top 25 candidates, 14 are women. The civil services examination is conducted annually in three stages — preliminary, main and interview — by the UPSC to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
