Indian river origins and confluences map
Separate river origins, named confluences and drainage basins using real mapped reaches.
STUDY NOTE 1
Origin is not always the naming point
The Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet at Devprayag; their combined flow is named the Ganga downstream. Trace tributaries before attempting river-pair questions.
STUDY NOTE 2
Divide versus border
A basin is the area draining to a common outlet. Its watershed boundary follows drainage divides rather than state borders. A basin can cross several states.
STUDY NOTE 3
Follow the outlet
Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri flow towards the Bay of Bengal. Narmada and Tapi drain towards the Arabian Sea. Natural Earth reaches are generalized; absent small tributaries are not proof of no river.
Map reading task
Locate Devprayag, Trimbakeshwar and Talakaveri. Compare their basins; identify each outlet coast without using the state name as a clue.

UPSC map practice & Geography Optional connection
For UPSC Prelims, pair the location with its state, neighbouring relief and relevant geographic process. For GS I and Geography Optional Indian geography revision, use a simple labelled sketch to explain the relationship rather than replacing the answer with place names. These are Pragnya-authored exercises, not official UPSC previous-year questions.
