India: National Highways — Golden Quadrilateral, N-S & E-W corridors map study
Memorise the corridor geometry: a quadrilateral plus two crossing axes.

The Golden Quadrilateral
Delhi–Kolkata–Chennai–Mumbai–Delhi links the four metros through about 5,846 km of four/six-lane highway.
STUDY NOTE 2
The two axes
The North–South corridor runs Srinagar to Kanyakumari; the East–West corridor runs Silchar to Porbandar. They cross near Jhansi.
STUDY NOTE 3
Why corridors matter
Corridors cut freight time, integrate markets and reshape industrial location — a standard Mains link between transport and regional development.
Map reading task
Sketch the quadrilateral and both corridors freehand; mark the crossing point and the four metros.

UPSC map practice & Geography Optional connection
For UPSC Prelims, pair the location with its state, neighbouring relief and relevant geographic process. For GS I and Geography Optional Indian geography revision, use a simple labelled sketch to explain the relationship rather than replacing the answer with place names. These are Pragnya-authored exercises, not official UPSC previous-year questions.
