Minerals, energy & industrial location map study
Link resource locations to geology, transport and industrial supply chains.
STUDY NOTE 1
Resource clusters
Jharia lies in the Damodar region and is important for coking coal. Eastern and central India contain major mineral belts, but an individual reference point is not an ore-field boundary.
STUDY NOTE 2
Oil is geographically diverse
Assam petroleum centres such as Digboi differ from offshore western-coast production. Separate oilfield, refinery and pipeline functions when studying energy maps.
STUDY NOTE 3
Location is a network decision
Iron and steel plants depend on ore, fuel, water, transport and markets. Proximity to one resource alone does not explain every industrial location.
Map reading task
Locate Jharia and Digboi. Sketch a resource-to-industry supply chain with transport and water as separate links.

What does this minerals, energy & industrial location lesson explain?
Jharia lies in the Damodar region and is important for coking coal. Eastern and central India contain major mineral belts, but an individual reference point is not an ore-field boundary.
UPSC map practice & Geography Optional connection
For UPSC Prelims, pair the location with its state, neighbouring relief and relevant geographic process. For GS I and Geography Optional Indian geography revision, use a simple labelled sketch to explain the relationship rather than replacing the answer with place names. These are Pragnya-authored exercises, not official UPSC previous-year questions.
