Vegetation & protected landscapes map study
Associate forest types, rainfall, tidal conditions and species with their geographic settings.
STUDY NOTE 1
Moisture and seasonality
Evergreen forests occur in wet tropical settings; deciduous forests reflect a marked dry season. Altitude and temperature also change vegetation in mountain environments.
STUDY NOTE 2
Tides shape mangroves
The Sundarbans occupies a tidal delta environment. Mangroves tolerate saline, waterlogged conditions; this is not the same habitat as alpine vegetation or dry thorn forest.
STUDY NOTE 3
Protection categories differ
National parks, wildlife sanctuaries, biosphere reserves and Ramsar wetlands have distinct purposes and frameworks. Do not infer one designation from another or treat reference markers as legal protected-area boundaries.
Map reading task
Match Gir, Kaziranga, Silent Valley and Sundarbans to species or habitats, then explain the climatic setting of each.

UPSC map practice & Geography Optional connection
For UPSC Prelims, pair the location with its state, neighbouring relief and relevant geographic process. For GS I and Geography Optional Indian geography revision, use a simple labelled sketch to explain the relationship rather than replacing the answer with place names. These are Pragnya-authored exercises, not official UPSC previous-year questions.
